Sinley Verk

Sinley Verk has spent his whole life doing exactly what the Church asked of him.

He was good at it. That's the part that keeps him up at night.

A Vein Warden born into a family of Church officials, Sinley learned early that devotion is easier when you don't look too closely at what you're devoted to. He didn't look. He was precise, disciplined, loyal — and the Church rewarded him for it in the way institutions always reward the people who don't ask questions.

Then he started asking questions.

 

He hasn't told anyone what he saw. He's not sure he has the words for it yet, or the courage. What he has is a talent for controlled blasts, a throwing knife he keeps in his left boot, and the particular burden of a man who was complicit in something and knows it.

Sinley Verk is not a hero. He's not sure he gets to be one.
